Sounds of the City is set to return this month, bringing some of the world’s biggest bands to Manchester.

Over the course of nine very special evenings, bands including James, Pixies and Foals will all take to the outdoor stage.

This year’s headliners also include Sam Fender, Lewis Capaldi, and the return of the ever-popular Hacienda Classical.

Since launching in 2013, Sounds of the City has hosted the likes of Kylie, Arcade Fire, Elbow, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Catfish And The Bottlemen and Courteeners.

As with most music events, Sounds of the City had its 2020 and 2021 summer seasons disrupted, but returned with a handful of gigs last September.

Faithless set for first return to Manchester since Maxi Jazz’s passing as part of huge new tourDanny JonesSounds of the City 2022 - line-up, tickets and more information for Manchester's open-air gig series (7)

British dance music legends Faithless are heading back out on a huge UK/EU tour later this year and are set to return to Manchester for the first time since the death of frontman Maxi Jazz.

One of the most iconic and influential electronic bands to have ever come out of the UK, the industry veterans had been off the road for a whole eight years until their first shows back on the circuit back this past June and even joined the lineup for Bestival 2024 earlier this month.

Following the huge success of the comeback gigs in the likes of London, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Amsterdam, Faithless have now confirmed a huge new 21-date tour which will see them returning to the likes of Manchester, Newcastle and more for the first time in nearly a decade.

News like this can only mean one thing: God really is a DJ.

Although bandmates Sister Bliss and Rollo Armstrong had performed sets of their own since the lead singer’s sudden death back in December 2022, it wasn’t until this year that decided to get together as a group once again.

Revealing their return in April, the clamour for tickets to their initially limited number of tour dates was massive, especially with the news that they are also working on new music, but it now seems that the demand for more live sets was so much that they had to go back on the road properly.

Jazz is said to have died peacefully in his sleep, but with his passing coming at the age of just 65 it was no less tragic and shocking for the band and the countless fans all over the world.

The performances earlier this year also landed right around his birthday and without them going down like the storm they did, this new Champion Sound – the name given to their forthcoming eighth studio album – this tour may not been confirmed to be happening so soon.

Safe to say it’s going to be a momentous occasion for Faithless to see them back at some seriously iconic venues including Manchester’s O2 Victoria Warehouse on 15 November, plus a baker’s dozen of shows all across Europe.

Sign-up for pre-sale can be found online and access starts next Wednesday, 28 August with general admission going live at the same time the following Friday, 30 August.

Leeds Festival 2024 says it has ‘lost’ two stages amidst Storm Lilian weatherDaisy JacksonSounds of the City 2022 - line-up, tickets and more information for Manchester's open-air gig series (9)

Two stages at Leeds Festival 2024 will be shut down after the site was battered by strong winds during Storm Lilian.

The huge festival, which officially kicks off today, said that although there is ‘an end in sight’ to the high winds that have been flattening tents and causing travel disruption, the damage has already been done to the festival site.

Leeds Festival has said that it won’t be opening the arena at 11am as planned, but aims to have fans dancing in the fields as soon as possible, The Hoot Leeds reports.

They also confirmed that two major stages – the BBC Radio 1 stage and the Aux stage – have been ‘lost’.

There’ll be no performances on either stage on Friday, the first full day of the massive music festival.

In their statement, Leeds Festival said: “We can see an end in sight to the high winds. We definitely won’t be opening the arenaat 11am, but we are targeting as soon as possible after that and we will update you further.

“However, we have definitely lost the BBC Radio 1 stage today, and there will be no performances on it.

“We have also lost the Aux stage today, and there will be no performances on it.

“We remain hopeful that everything else will continue as planned and that we will still have an amazing weekend. Please await further information.”

This year’s line-up includes headline performances from Fred Again, Liam Gallagher, Blink-182, Lana Del Rey and Catfish and the Bottlemen.

The Met Office has now issued a statement to those at Leeds Festival, including a word of advice about tents.

Warning campers atLeeds Festival 2024, Mr Dewhurst added: “The wind will pick up in that area through the night, particularly strongest towards dawn and then first thing in the morning, before then easing through the morning.

“So there could be potentially some impacts from those strong winds, of 50 to 60mph in the area so it’s worth making sure your tents are secured. There could also be disruption first thing to the transport networks for those travelling first thing.”
